SL-34
History
A Bourbon sub-variety mostly found in Kenya, SL-34 was selected from an individual tree planted in the privately owned Loresha Estate, Kabete, Kenya.
Developed by the Scott Agriculture Laboratories as with its fellow sub-variety SL-28, all individual selections made between 1935 – 1939 were prefixed “SL.”
Earlier sources claimed SL-34 as a mutation of the French Mission sub-variety. However, recent studies have indicated that SL-34 is related to Typica.
Genetic Trait
SL-34 was designed to be high yielding with good cup quality. Its bean size is large compared to other Arabica coffee beans.
SL-34 is adapted to high altitude areas with strong rainfall and, but susceptible to coffee berry disease.
Taste Profile
SL-34 profile is characterized by its complex citrus acidity, heavy body, with clean and sweet aftertaste.
